| Summer Fashion Trends 2010 (part 2) |
| 29 September 2010, 10:26 |
Whether it's the floral print, jazzy metallics or this season's subtle nude tones, there is a trend to suit your every mood this summer season.
It’s time to look at our next 5 Must-Haves for Summer 2010:
What to Wear and How to Wear It.
 |
6. SHEER TOPS
The sheer trend has been all over the runways by Donna Karan and Vera Wang, and is most definitely one of summer 2010 top trends. It can be worn sexy, flirty, boldly or be toned down with layers. A loose, slightly draped fit is on the spotlight, creating a casual yet feminine look that anyone can look good in. It's sexy in a subtle way, so you can wear it during the daytime as well.
How to wear sheer:
- For looking modest and sophisticated make sure to add a camisole non-sheer top under it.
- To achieve a stylish and office friendly look, layer it with a camisole or tank under it, and top it off with a light weight cardigan.
- Create an ultra-trendy and bold look by wearing a bright coloured top or bra underneath a simple sheer top tunic. Great for a good night out.
- For a boho look, combine a sheer tunic blouse with a print with a tank top underneath, denim shorts and a straw panama hat and accessorise it up.
- Neutral chiffon is another winner for summer, it is light, airy and oh-so feminine. Not to mention perfect for the summer weather.

7. TURQUOISE AND CORAL JEWELLERY
Infuse some exoticism in your outfits. Neutrals combined with bright, summery colours are a super-fresh, cool and chic look this season. Turquoise and coral complement each other perfectly for you to achieve this look, they're quite timeless and can look good on most skin tones. Not to mention that they enhance a gorgeous tan.
How to wear turquoise and coral jewellery:
- Pick the right shade of turquoise by determining the undertone of your skin. Springs and Autumns tend to look better in green turquoise because of the warm greenish tone that compliment peachy/golden skin tones, while Summers and Winters look spectacular in blue-ish turquoise because of the blue tone that looks fantastic on cool complexions.
- If your style is classy and sophisticated start with small turquoise or coral accents such as beaded necklace, pendant, bracelets and earrings.
- Experiment with different shades of turquoise and coral. Coral red sometimes looks too harsh so always choose softer pinkish corals for a more subtle look.
- Coral looks best on warm-toned skin (Spring and Autumn) so if you're cool-skinned (Summer or Winter) wear it as a bracelet or purse instead.

8. MILITARY
Who would think that the military trend would ever come off of an army base!? An outfit with a touch of military can be very sexy. We are not always talking army printed garments but little military jackets with the metal buttons and shoulder tabs or cute cargo-type pants with pocket detaling.
How to wear Military:
- Military pants can be so unflattering, as the extra pockets and details around the leg can add bulk. But they can also be super cute when paired with a tank top, a long and lean cardigan, flats or heels. I love olive tones paired with gold accessories.
- What’s great about this trend is that it exists at every price point. If your legs are a little heavier, opt for a pair with less detailing, so you aren't drawing more attention to yourself.
- Pair a military styled jacket with some leggings and a tank top and feminine-it-up with some stunning gold or coral accessories.

9. ETHNIC-INSPIRED SANDALS
Beads, sequins, multi colored texture, snake skin… That's what you'll be seeing a lot of this season. Embellished sandals keep your outfit looking interesting - adding a little of an exotic flavor in your style.
How to wear ethnic-inspired sandals:
- Wear them with simple, solid or two-tone pieces to accentuate the awesome details of the sandals.
- The sandals will highlight your feet and legs so make sure you get a pedicure, shave your legs, and exfoliate the skin and slap on some lotion to keep looking flawless and soft. Nothing's worse than walking around with chipped nail polish on your toes in a pair of fabulous and good-looking sandals.

10. STRIPES
A huge nautical influence is coming up for Spring 2010. Of course, stripes are re-occurring spring essentials that look timeless no matter when or how you wear it, but for some reason, they are expected to be really big this season. They are super-versatile and can easily be teamed up with a print skirt and single chain-bead-necklace.
How to wear stripes:
- If you want to be able to wear stripes to work choose a three-quarter sleeved version, it looks more polished and appropriate for the office.
- Do not be afraid to mix and match the stripes with other fun prints and details. Add for example a polka dot scarf tied around your neck, or team them up with a bright-coloured gemstone necklace.
- Make sure you pick the right style of stripes for your height and body figure; stripes tend to make you look wider and shorter, but not narrow ones! Narrow stripes are more versatile and flattering than the wide ones. If you have wide shoulders or torso have in mind that horizontal stripes can slightly emphasize that, so either pick tops with narrow stripes or balance it out with a flared bottom.
Keep watching for more summer updates, we’ll be going deep into the summer colours and shades and to best wear them!
